Not only are the cleaning products we buy for our home not the best for us but they are also expensive! We have tried out a new DIY dishwasher detergent that I have come to love the past few weeks. I’ve made two batches and have found the best way to make it and use it. It’s easy. Three ingredients and it cleans the dishes really well! I am almost ready to say it’s better than the store bought. Try this easy DIY dishwasher detergent. Anyone of you is capable of doing it!
How To Make Easy DIY Dishwasher Detergent
- 1 cup Washing Soda
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1/2 cup Lemon Juice
- 1/2 cup Kosher Salt
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl. The ingredients will fizz up a bit when you add the lemon juice but it goes down quickly. Don’t worry there won’t be a volcano in your kitchen!
- You can either place the ingredients in an ice tray to make tabs or just make the powder. See below on ways to store it.
Two ways to store it:
- To make tabs. Please note that you only want to fill up the ice trays about 1/2 way. They are too big to fit in the dishwasher if you fill it up the whole way (I made that mistake in the first round.) Make sure to pack it down, pushing with your fingers. Place in freezer until hard. Take out of ice trays and place in a container. I used an old small coffee container I had. They will break, that’s what I didn’t like about it but it is always easier to just pick one up and plop it in your dishwasher.
- You can simply place in an open container until dried. I sat mine out on the counter for about 24 hours, then closed the lid. You can scoop this out with an old tablespoon into the dishwasher when ready to clean your dishes. I did notice that it still sticks a bit after sitting in the container but you can just scrape it with your tablespoon and it’s fine.
